Review of Filling in the Black by Joan Kantor

 Filling in the Black

A Review by Deanna Scott

"I recently finished reading Filling In The Black, and I wanted to reach out to share how much I appreciated your work. It is an intuitive poetry collection that thoughtfully explores the experience of navigating life as a white person during times of racial turmoil in our country. I truly applaud the effort you made to resolve and express your personal perspective through this medium.

While there have been many attempts to write about the African American experience in the United States, I believe this book represents an authentic effort by a non-person of color to understand the complexities of the world around them. Your poems are both thought-provoking and revealing regarding the intersections of race and culture.

Thank you for sharing your perspective through such a moving collection."
